The attackers were not only intent on causing destruction, but they were also determined to unleash their fury on those they saw as “enemies.” As John tried to intervene, he was immediately surrounded by the increasingly frenzied crowd. Punches and kicks rained down on him. He struggled to get up, trying to protect those around him and de-escalate the violence, but the overwhelming number and strength of the attackers made it impossible to fight back.
The crowd didn’t just beat John; they continued to berate him, throwing vicious and crude insults. The blows from Bobby’s group sent him to the ground.
