Harrison Ford will no longer be appearing at the 97th Academy Awards this Sunday, Good Morning America has confirmed.
The legendary 82-year-old actor, who had been scheduled to present during the event, has pulled out after being diagnosed with shingles. Ford received his diagnosis on February 28 and is currently resting at home as he recovers.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shingles is triggered by the varicella-zoster virus—the same virus responsible for chickenpox. Those who have previously had chickenpox may develop shingles later in life when the virus reactivates, leading to a painful rash that can appear on the face or body.
Ford’s representative informed ABC News that he officially withdrew from the ceremony on March 1.
The actor’s absence follows an eventful year in his career. He recently wrapped up filming for the Apple TV+ series Shrinking and took on the role of President Ross, also known as Red Hulk, in Captain America: Brave New World, which premiered on February 14.
Although Ford won’t be present at the Dolby Theatre, the ceremony will still feature an array of A-list stars. The night is set to deliver memorable highlights and significant wins celebrating the year’s most acclaimed films.
The 2025 Academy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC across more than 200 territories worldwide, starting at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday.
