LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Residents across Los Angeles experienced noticeable shaking on Sunday night following a 3.9-magnitude earthquake centered in North Hollywood, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at approximately 10:13 p.m. Its epicenter was located about 1.4 miles east-southeast of North Hollywood.
USGS data indicates that “light shaking” was recorded in Burbank and North Hollywood, with tremors also reported across a broad section of Los Angeles, as well as in multiple areas of Orange and Ventura counties.
The quake, which struck the North Hollywood region on Sunday, was strong enough to be felt across Los Angeles, according to USGS reports.
Renowned seismologist Lucy Jones commented on social media that the quake was “too small to definitively link to any fault, but the closest one is the Hollywood fault.” She downplayed the event, adding, “Yawn. Nothing much to say about an earthquake in earthquake country.”
Roughly 10 miles away, some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities were gathered in the heart of the city, celebrating the conclusion of the Oscars ceremony.
Authorities reported no significant damage or injuries as a result of the quake.
Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, stated that the department did not activate its earthquake response protocol, which involves conducting strategic assessments by land, air, and sea across the city.
