A missing woman from Indiana miraculously survived for nearly a week after her car veered off the road and crashed into a ditch in Newton County.
Brieonna Cassell, 41, was reported missing after she left her mother’s home to visit a friend in Wheatfield and DeMotte. While driving, she reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the accident. Her vehicle remained hidden from passing traffic until six days later when a worker operating drainage equipment spotted it near a county landfill.
Upon inspection, the Morocco fire chief found Cassell inside the car—conscious and able to speak despite severe injuries. Her father, John Caldwell, shared that she survived by wringing out her hoodie to collect water and desperately calling for help, though passing vehicles couldn’t see her.
Cassell was airlifted to Christ Hospital in Chicago, where she is receiving treatment for multiple broken bones and may require surgery. Her survival is being hailed as nothing short of remarkable.
