Authorities in Polk County have named the two officers who sustained injuries during a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash over the weekend. On Monday, officials confirmed the officers involved were John Chandler and Tre McDonald.

According to an update shared by the department on social media, Officer Chandler remains hospitalized and underwent a second surgery on Monday due to injuries from the crash. Officer McDonald has since been discharged and is recuperating at home.

The department noted that both officers face a lengthy road to recovery and expressed gratitude for the public’s ongoing support.
“We’re thankful for all the prayers and encouragement being sent to our injured officers,” the post read.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when Chandler and McDonald were in their patrol vehicle, which was struck by a suspect traveling at close to 100 miles per hour. The violent collision caused the police car to catch fire.

Officials identified the suspect as A.J. Ware, who remains at large as of Monday, according to the police.
