Three teenagers have tragically lost their lives while on spring break in Florida.
On Monday, April 21, four students from Massachusetts were in Florida when a horrific car crash occurred at around 9:30 PM. The vehicle carrying the teenagers collided with a tractor-trailer making a U-turn, which was being driven by a 19-year-old.
Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that three individuals died in the crash: Jimmy McIntosh, Hannah Wasserman, and Maisey O’Donnell, a state diving champion. All of the victims were believed to be 18 years old. McIntosh was reportedly the driver of the SUV when it collided with the truck.
A fourth student, whose identity has not been released by authorities, survived the crash but remains in critical condition.
The teens were students at Concord-Carlisle High School, according to CBS News. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter expressed her grief, saying, “We are very appreciative of the outpouring of love during what is absolutely heartbreaking. We also appreciate the wish to feel purposeful and not helpless. At this time, it is most appropriate that no action be taken to honor the students without the full consent of the families and appropriate support for so many young people facing unfathomable loss.”
An investigation by the police revealed that McIntosh was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but it is unclear whether Wasserman, O’Donnell, or the other student were. The driver of the tractor-trailer is not believed to have sustained any injuries.
Following the devastating deaths, Wasserman’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her funeral. As of now, the fundraiser has raised over $8,500. The page describes Wasserman as “a bright light taken far too soon” and fondly recalls her kind and caring nature.
“We are heartbroken to share the devastating loss of Hannah Wasserman, who tragically passed away in a car accident while on spring break in Florida,” the page reads. “Hannah was just 17 years old—a bright light taken far too soon. She was truly one of a kind: warm-hearted, kind, and always looking out for others.”
This tragedy has left an entire community mourning the loss of these young lives.
