Jordélia Pereira Barbosa from Brazil has been arrested for allegedly sending poisoned chocolate Easter eggs to the household of her ex-boyfriend’s new partner. This act of revenge reportedly resulted in the death of a seven-year-old boy and left two others in critical condition.
Authorities claim Barbosa intentionally laced the chocolate eggs with a toxic substance before having them delivered to her ex’s new partner’s home. It is believed that jealousy and a desire for revenge motivated her actions.
The 35-year-old woman is said to have purchased the Easter eggs from a supermarket, disguised her identity with a dark wig, and sent the package accompanied by a note addressed to Mirian Lira, wishing her a Happy Easter. The recipient, Mirian, shared the chocolates with her children, a seven-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.
Shortly after consuming the chocolates, the boy became seriously ill and died hours later at Imperatriz City Hospital. The mother and daughter remain in critical condition and are currently intubated. Authorities are still conducting forensic tests on the remaining chocolates to confirm the presence of poison.
Barbosa was apprehended while traveling home by bus after police discovered a shopping receipt linked to her purchase of the eggs. Additional evidence found in her possession included wigs, scissors, cards, a saw knife, and unidentified substances.
The police are continuing their investigation and plan to bring Barbosa before the judiciary to face charges. An autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death, but poisoning is strongly suspected. Tests on the survivors and leftover chocolates are ongoing.
