A tragic accident at a private K-12 school in Studio City, Los Angeles, claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. in the carpool lane of Campbell Hall School’s parking lot at 4533 Laurel Canyon Boulevard. School officials confirmed that two students were involved in the crash.
“Our Health Center staff responded immediately to assist the students involved,” said Head of School Rev. Canon Julian P. Bull in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that one student was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. LAPD later confirmed the boy died from his injuries.
Authorities said the teen was walking between vehicles when he was pinned in a chain-reaction crash. Other students who were entering a car at the time sustained minor injuries.
According to LAFD, two other teens and three adults were also evaluated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team was dispatched to the school to provide emotional and psychological support for relatives and witnesses.
Campbell Hall has made counselors and chaplains available for those seeking help in the aftermath.
Aerial footage from AIR7 showed a canopy and tarp covering the area between the damaged vehicles.
Police said the driver involved in the crash will not face any citations, describing the event as an unfortunate accident. The investigation into what led to the incident is ongoing.
